Kolby attended Moore Schools and when he was in the seventh grade he joined the track and cross country team. Kolby was destined to be a runner. He loved it and dedicated most of his free time to become the best he could be. His talent and hard work paid off when he was a senior at Moore High. He was offered a scholarship to Redlands College for Cross Country.

On February 3rd, 2020 at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon all of Kolby’s hard work and dreams were instantly taken away. He and twelve other of his teammates went out for a practice run at Moore High School. It would be Kolby’s last and final run. A driver of a Ford F250 was driving 80 MPH and drove up onto the sidewalk that Kolby and his teammates were running on and hit them. The driver had alcohol and marijuana in his system and did not stop. Kolby laid in the road with a fatal head injury . Many came to his aide but as Kolby has always done he put others before himself. His last words ever spoken were “go help the others.” Kolby fought hard for twelve days in the ICU but passed away on February 15th from his injuries. Two others lost their lives and several others were left with severe injuries. The driver was charged and convicted of three counts of second degree murder. He is now serving three consecutive life sentences. However, he lived his life with several drug and alcohol charges with very little consequences. I will always support stronger laws and harsher sentences for repeat offenders.

Kolby left a legacy of kindness, hard work, dedication and he was completely humble. He was a registered organ donor. We donated his organs and those organs saved two others. A scholarship has been founded in honor of Kolby and the other two young ladies who lost their lives. There also is a memorial and memorial park at the high school in the very spot where Kolby and his teammates lost their lives. Our hearts will always be broken by the loss of Kolby. I will miss him until I reunite with him in heaven.
