On February 17th, 2025, VOID hosted it’s second annual DUI Victims Awareness Day at the Capitol. By our count, approximately 350 people joined us in the second-floor rotunda to honor and remember the victims of impaired driving across our state. Through our website, a video and our Victim Display Boards we were able to show the faces and names of almost 200 innocent victims.
Attendees heard remarks by Public Safety Secretary Tricia Everest, Attorney General Gentner Drummond, DPS Commissioner Tim Tipton, District Attorney Greg Mashburn and Senator Darrell Weaver. Ashlynn DeBusk sang a beautiful song called See You In a Minute by Lydia Laird. Food was provided by Chicago Title and catered by C2 Catering and Grounds 4 Compassion provided the incredible coffee.
This event is the most important event of the year for Victims of Impaired Drivers, Inc., because it helps lay the foundation for our legislative efforts. That is why it will always take place at the capitol on a day when the legislature is in session. Victims’ families are sending a very powerful message to our elected officials that DUI is a serious problem in Oklahoma, and we must find serious solutions to protect the public. Our 2026 event will be held on Monday, February 16th.
