Nhu Huongthanh was a foreign exchange student her senior year who lived with the Carson family in Oklahoma City. After graduation, she attended college in Washington state. At the time of the New Year’s Eve crash, caused by a drunk driver who rear ended them going 116 mph, she was visiting her previous host family. She was a passenger in the car that also killed her host mother and injured the two daughters who survived the crash. Nhu died two weeks after being taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition from a head injury. Her parents from Vietnam were able to be present when she succumbed to her injuries from the crash.
