Nolan Eugene Davidson died Thursday, December 7 in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of nine.

His sudden departure leaves a black void of space in the countless lives he touched during his short time with us. His quick smile, easy laugh and warm and infectious personality will never be forgotten and will never be replaced.

Nolan had many attributes. A gifted third-grade student at Christa McCauliffe Elementary who possessed a voracious appetite for reading; a deeply loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin; a loyal, trusted and caring friend to school and church classmates, teachers, coaches, teammates, and countless other acquaintances – virtually everyone he encountered.

He also was a gifted athlete with a bright future.

“I really miss him, I wish Nolan was still here with us,” a fourth-grade friend and former soccer teammate wrote in a CaringBridge post. “Let me tell you something, I was lucky to have him as a friend.”

Nolan was a member of the DeSoto Thunder basketball team and was captain of his KC Fusion Soccer Club team at the time of his passing. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and running, having competed in a handful of 5-kilometer races with his family, and was a member of Herd Running, a Lenexa-based youth club.

“Nolan was obviously very talented on the field but his presence as a teammate and leader is what made him so special,” KC Fusion coach Mo Loridon said. “Nolan is everything that is great about youth sports and soccer, specifically as he wanted to be the best, both teammate and player, that he could be.”

Nolan displayed the character and humility that anyone would want to see in a young athlete.

To main his legacy KC Fusion has retired Nolan’s number 10 for all 2014 level teams.

“It will always be his number,” Loridon said. “I was lucky, we were all lucky that we got to hang out with Nolan.”
